The island is completely inaccessible by road and train so India to Sri Lanka by flight is a preferred option for travellers. Those wondering how to go to Sri Lanka from India by ship should know that Mumbai to Colombo cruise takes about 2 days and ferries are available at Rameshwaram. Boarding an India to Sri Lanka cruise is a good alternative to booking a flight. Recently UNESCO added the name of Sri Lankan historical sites to the category of World heritage sites. Certainly, UNESCO’s addition helped attract more tourists and Sri Lanka’s tourism has progressed significantly. Whether it’s the ancient temples or the stone etched carvings in a cave, all minutely portray the legacy of their ancient rulers and civilization. By Air

Colombo International Airport (CMB) is the main point of entry for international travelers in Sri Lanka. The availability of domestic flights in Sri Lanka is limited as most of the cities are quite near to each other. Direct flights from Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai are available by Air India, Jet Airways, and SriLankan Airlines. India to Sri Lanka flight duration may vary from 90 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes depending on the airport.

However, some of the prime flight zones are from Ampara, Bentota river, Colombo, Hatton, Jaffna, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Katugastota, Kelaniya, Koggala, Mahaweli, Weerala, Sigiriya, Trincomalee etc. The airlines that religiously serve Sri Lanka are like Jet Airways, Singapore airlines, Turkish Airlines, Spice jet airlines etc.

By Train

Once you scout you will get the detail travel time of the buses that majorly includes routes like Negombo, Galle, while there is a direct bus route from the Colombo to Kandy. For every hour the buses travel for forty to fifty kilometers. However, the speed lifts up as the drivers are set to wheel on the plane lands to 60 to 70 kilometers. But again the speed slows down to 20 km in the hilly areas.

By Road

In Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Railways runs throughout the island. A train ride is more relaxing as compared to other rides. In fact, the first class train ticket in Sri Lanka does not go beyond $15.35. In Sri Lanka, there are three rail lines, including South from Colombo, East from Colombo, and North from Colombo. One can book regular class or an AC class depending upon the distance of your location and hours of travel.

I would say my overall trip was fine but there is scope of improvement when it comes to itinerary and planning. We could not cover a lot of points irrespective of the fact we started everyday as early as 9am. We barely got any time to shop in Colombo, in fact Lotus tower was the only place we could

vidit after our arrival to Colombo and the cab driver didn't let us shop the next day or on our last day when we headed 5-6 hours early to the airport. The hotels were good except for the fact that two of them had no lifts but we had to climb stairs which was not beforehand. In fact the hotel which had a great view in Kandy, I requested the agent if we could stay there instead of going to Nuwara eliya but since it was last minute it was not acceptable. I would give 3 out 5 as there is scope of having better experience. My best memory is the time we spent in the Millennium elephant orphanage where we fed and bathed the elephant and walked with one.
